New Products and Applications:

LEFC – Large Electric Flow Control

The Brand, LEFC (large electronically adjustable proportional pressure compensated flow control) is an electronically controlled version of the original large FC51 style flow control valve.  The LEFC performance as a flow control is very similar to the large FC51 because they both use the same spring and compensator spool.  Thus, the control flow port (CF) and the excess flow port (EX) remain usable and pressure compensated.

Going from Manual to Electric

Problem:  Brand’s manual FC51-16SAE currently controls the speed of a hydraulic motor that throws fertilizer a certain distance.  To maintain the fertilizer distance the FC must be adjusted periodically throughout the day.  Right now, the truck has to be stopped so that the FC on the back of the truck can be adjusted to the correct fertilizer distance.  The down time, from stopping the truck, increases the time to fertilize a field.

Solution:  Use Brand’s LEFC164512L in conjunction with an EC-12-01 or EC-12-02.  The customer no longer has down time because now the fertilizer distance can be adjusted while the vehicle is being driven.

SB4 – Non-Adjustable Divider Combiner Valve

The valve receives a single stream of fluid and divides it into two equal streams regardless of the pressure differential.  When flow is passed through the valve in the opposite direction, it receives the two streams and evenly combines them into one stream.  Better accuracy is achieved when the orifices are sized to the specific input flow.

Synchronizing Trash Bin Cover

Problem:  State law requires trash dumpsters to be covered when they are transported to county landfills. One-way to do this is to have two arms, controlled by double acting cylinders, unroll a tarp from the front of the dumpster to the back of the dumpster.  The problem is that the cylinders do not extend and retract at the same rate, causing damage to the mechanical apparatus.

Solution: The extension and retraction of both cylinders can be controlled with Brand’s new divider combiner.  This valve eliminates damage to the mechanical apparatus, thus reducing repair costs.

EC –Custom Electronic Package

Brand Hydraulics can produce custom electronic turnkey packages.  These packages can be from simple switch boxes to complex proportional control-units.  They can include controls, cables, enclosures, wiring harness and hydraulic valves.  Let Brand Hydraulics be your single source for electronic control packages and hydraulic valves.

Mobile Beach Cleaner

Problem:  A mobile beach cleaner is a piece of equipment pulled behind a tractor.  The piece of equipment sifts the sand to remove any types of impurities.  The cleaner has motors and cylinders that need to be proportionally controlled from the cab of the tractor.

Solution:  Brand Hydraulics chose to use a handheld control with a proportional controller and multiple switches.  The cable on the handheld control has a circular connector for easy removal.  A proportional controller will control the speed of the hydraulic motor using Brand’s EFC (Electronic Flow Control), while the switches control the cylinder functions using Brand’s Series 36 (Electronic Stack Valve). Cable lengths and connector locations were also designed to the manufacturers specifications.  This allows the customer to install the package right out of the box.

Grain Harvester Improvement

Problem:  A piece of agricultural equipment, with a spinning reel, needs to maintain a ratio between the spinning reel and vehicle speed.  Right now, the reel speed remains constant as the vehicle speeds up and slows down.  This causes loss or destruction of grain, thus causing a loss in profit.

Solution:  Brand Hydraulics designed a package that uses a sensor to measure the ground speed.  The signal from the sensor is feed into a custom electronic controller.  The electronic controller has adjustable gains so the reel can be adjusted for initial setup and different situations. This allows the reel speed to automatically adjust, at a preset ratio, to changes in vehicle speed.

Product Modifications, Additions and Changes:

Horizontal Hand Pump

Brand has modified the standard hand pump so that it can now be mounted horizontally.  The foot brackets are made from 1/4” steel so that the pump can be mounted rigidly to any flat surface.  Four tie rods are used to retain the foot brackets to the tank and casting.  The foot bracket, which seals against the tank, incorporates an o-ring seal to eliminate external leakage.  Air is now vented through a hole on the vent plug, instead of the notch on the tank. Brand feels that these features create one of the most durable and competitive horizontal hand pumps on the market.

Forty gpm Relief Valve

In the past year, Brand added a manifold type relief to its current line of RL’s.  The new RLC (high lift ball spring type) is designed for applications where the customer may need high flow capabilities, less chatter and/or less noise.  The RLC can be ordered with either #12 or #16 SAE porting.  The advantage of the RLC over the RL is that it virtually maintains the same relief pressure from crack open to full flow.  The flow and pressure rating is 40 gpm and 3000 psi respectively.  It can be ordered under the following model codes RLC16-1500 or RLC12-1500.

RLC – Example of Common Model Codes

RLC12-1500….High lift ball spring relief type, #12 SAE ports, rated

for 30-gpm and 1500 psi relief setting.

RLC16-2000….High lift ball spring relief type, #16 SAE ports, rated

for 40-gpm and 2000 psi relief setting.

SERIES 34 JOYSTICK OPTION

The Brand joystick handle kit may only be used on two adjacent spool sections in a valve assembly.  Both of the spool sections must have the “A” call out in the sections model code, which designates that it is machined for the joystick option.  The joystick handle assembly can be used on high spool sections with reliefs, double locks and with fourth position float.  The call out for the handle kit is “34HA”.

SERIES 34 HANDLE UPDATE

34HG

Brand’s handles are changing to increase durability, simplify design and reduce the amount of play.  The handle kits that are being replaced are 34HX, 34HXA, 34HXAS and 34HXS.  All of the model codes with an “X” will be switched to a “B”.  Example: 34BFT4SX changes to 34BFT4SB.  Assembly numbers with the “X” style handle will be given a new assembly number with the “B” style handle.  The 34HG and 34HGS is an additional handle option for low, relief and double lock sections.  Brand has been shipping valves with the new handle design since September of 2001.
